Greetings, I am the Special Education teacher for grades k-12 and this is my second year here at Oasis Academy. I have been teaching for 13 years, some full time and some part time to be home with my children. I have taught 1st grade through 4th grade, Project LIFE (Literacy Intervention For Excellence), Art k-6 and ESL (English as a Second Language).
My education encompasses a wide range of fields: University of Arizona-Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics, Sierra Nevada College-Elementary Education k-8, Sierra Nevada College-TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages), Grand Canyon University-Special Education endorsement k-12. I will receive my Masters of Special Education December, 2016.
I am honored to work at Oasis Academy, where I enjoy the challenge of working with all grade levels and collaborating with such a brilliant staff. When time allows, I look forward to camping, hiking and traveling to Arizona to visit family.
I’m very excited to be joining the Oasis team! Growing up I had spectacular teachers that inspired me to want to become a teacher as well! This will be my 7th year teaching. I have a Bachelors of Art degree in Elementary Education and also a TESOL endorsement. I was born and raised here in Fallon and am grateful to also be raising my family here! I am married and have two little girls. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, quilting, and CrossFit.
My two sons and I came to Oasis Academy upon its opening. While my sons were born in Fallon, their dad and I hail from Long Island, NY, and moved here in 1995. I have a BS in zoology and 8 yrs experience as a laboratory specialist for NYC B of Ed. and 5 yrs teaching. My husband and I have coached various sports on and off for 3 decades. We introduced Fallon to Lacrosse. I love kids, animals (yes, my major was a clue) gardens, science and math. I focus on math here at oasis.
This is my third year working at Oasis and I love it. I have worked with kids in various ways for many years before coming to Oasis and I am enjoying all the kids here. I enjoy watching them grow and learn. I feel honored to be able to work with so many different children in all grades and feel inspired by the wonderful staff I get to work with. This is truly an extraordinary school with exceptional parents, students, leaders and staff. I have four magnificent children of my own plus the cutest granddaughter ever! My oldest is my only girl, she is married and living in Utah with her husband and daughter, I have twin boys that are seniors and heading off to college next year and my youngest is in 4th grade here at Oasis. I enjoy spending time with my family camping, hiking, being outdoors, watching movies, and playing games when we have time. I am involved in a few different organizations as well as continuing my education to get my teaching degree, so, when it is possible to get some time to myself, I love to read good books!
I have been involved with Oasis Academy, in various roles, since the beginning of the school. This is my second year working with the 9th and 10th graders in our college preparatory high school. Every day that I enter our school, I know I surround myself with the best of the best! Our parents, students, and teachers are truly the best.
I live in Fallon with my husband Mike and our three children. We moved to Fallon in 2000. We are experiencing “empty nest” syndrome as a family now that our oldest is living in Reno attending UNR. He is in his second year, double-majoring in Chemistry and Education. Our other children Meghan, Emma, and Josiah all attend Oasis Academy in 12th, 9th, and 8th grades respectively. As a family we enjoy ministry within our church, sports of all kinds, and outdoor activities. My personal idea of a great day would be to spend the duration of the day curled up in a cozy blanket with a good book and an even better latte. Some of my favorite authors are Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, and Jonathan Edwards.
“A day wasted on others is not wasted on one’s self.”
~ Charles Dickens
I have taught students in grades 1 through 12 and also worked for the University of Michigan for two years as a teacher trainer, facilitating science outreach throughout the state. In addition, I taught high school science while serving in the Peace Corps in the Fiji Islands.
