Lisa Bird was born and raised in Orange County, California. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University. She later received a Master of Science degree in Reading Education from Cal State Fullerton and is a credentialed teacher and reading specialist.
Lisa taught 1st, 2nd, 6th grade and adult education in Garden Grove, California. She has had unique professional opportunities including teaching 4th grade in Western Samoa as well as working in a university sponsored reading clinic. Lisa has worked with preschool through adult aged students with reading disabilities. She left the classroom to join Western Governors University in 2004. She currently works as the University’s Adjunct Faculty Hiring, Training, and Performance Manager.
Lisa and her husband Brandon moved to Fallon, Nevada 7 years ago and enjoy the opportunity to raise their 4 children in Fallon. She is thrilled to be a part of Oasis Academy, where the goal is student success through a strong student, school and home connection.
Katie Dahl was raised in Fallon and is a founding board member of Oasis Academy. She attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. After graduation she worked for the Division of Child and Family Services in Fallon for several years before moving to Idaho for her husband, Nathan, to complete his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree. While in Idaho Katie worked in children’s mental health primarily running groups for children with mental illness. Katie returned to Fallon with her family in 2008. Today, she stays at home with her two young children.
Sammi moved to Fallon in the 5th grade and has lived here ever since, except for a few years at UNR where she earned a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. After coming back, she spent several years working with special needs children and is now happy to be a stay at home mom. She and her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Jessica, live on a farm and love spending time outside riding horses, fishing, and of course working on the farm. Over the years Sammi has been extremely active as a school volunteer, served as PTO president and been on several different district level committees including: The Parent Involvement Committee District Improvement Plan, and the Master Plan Task Force.
Mr. Woodliff is a lifelong resident of Fallon, Nevada. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in physics with a minor in business from Oregon State University in 1968. In 1969, Mr. Woodliff attended the US Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. After serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War, he enrolled in the School of Architecture at the University of Utah, receiving a Masters of Architecture degree in 1976. He served two terms on the Nevada State Board of Architecture. In 1991, he established his own design firm in Fallon, with offices located in the historic Woodliff Building on Maine Street. In addition to running his own business, he also took a management role in the Woodliff Company.
Sage Hiibel is a fourth generation Fallon resident. He attended K-12 in Fallon, and graduated from Churchill County High School in 1999. He went on to earn his B.S. and M.S. In Chemical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, and his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Colorado State University in 2008. His wife Schyler is also a fourth generation Fallon resident and an alumni of UNR and CSU. They are raising their two small children and live in Fallon. Sage is now an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at UNR and his research and teaching focuses on water and energy sustainability.
Karla first arrived in Fallon, Nevada in 2009. Prior to calling Fallon home, Karla was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and raised in Naperville, Illinois. She has also lived in Meridian, Mississippi; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Tokyo, Japan while her husband was pursuing his career as a Navy Pilot. Karla briefly moved away from Fallon to Lemoore, California due to her husband’s military orders. When Karla’s husband separated from active duty military in 2014, their love of Fallon brought them back to raise their children. Karla is a 2003 graduate of Truman State University in Missouri where she received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and was a 4-year letter winner in women’s soccer. Karla has worked for 12 years as a registered nurse specializing in emergency nursing. She is currently employed at Banner Churchill Community Hospital. In her free time Karla enjoys horseback riding, snowboarding and working on the small ranch that she and her husband, Andrew, purchased. She also enjoys coaching her daughter, Kaylee, and son, Keagan, in soccer as well as watching them participate in rodeo.
