April 8, 2019
Dear Second Grade Families,
Welcome spring!! Here we are back from Spring Break, hopefully everyone had an enjoyable week!
Parent/Teacher Conferences start on Friday, April 12th. A “Sign Up Genius” was emailed out before vacation. If you didn’t sign up, please do so. If the available times do not work with your schedule, be sure to contact your child’s teacher so that we can accomodate you. Miss Garcia and I want to meet with every family.
Math
This week, students will be focusing on measurement. During the week students will learn about measuring using nonstandard units, different tools used to measure, measuring to the nearest inch, and measuring to the nearest centimeter. Our work in measurement will last approximately 2 weeks.
Language
In language students will be working on determining the meaning of words using context clues. This is an important skill to help develop understanding when reading and also aids in developing a strong vocabulary.
Writing
Second grade writers will finish writing their narratives. These narratives are stories featuring a martian with 100 eyes. They will be up for you to enjoy during Parent/Teacher Conferences on Friday, April 12th and of course into the next week.
Projects
Our next project will have students becoming botanists. Students will be learning about plants and pollination. Over the next month students will be learning the parts of plants and flowers, dissecting flowers, germinating seeds, growing plants, and learning how animals help in pollination.
Looking forward to seeing all the second graders back ready to learn!!
Sincerely,
Anne Bloomfield
and
Shannon Garcia
