February 3rd-10th: Middle School Student Council will be selling candy grams to students in 3rd – 8th grades in the cafeteria during lunch blocks (11:30-1:00). Cost is .50 each. Students and parents will need to make any candy gram purchases during lunchtime.
This week I plan to take the class on a quick trip to Safeway to celebrate meeting our MAPS science goal. I made a deal with the kids and they killed it! We will make our voyage across the parking lot as a class after lunch on Thursday. If you do not want your student to go, please let me know and we can make other arrangements. Thanks!
7th ELA – We plan on finishing up our Two Miserable Presidents book on this short week. The class has been doing very well with connecting to concepts we’ve been working on in Social Studies. I am impressed with the fascination and interest so many of our scholars have with the Civil War; its important people, places, and ideas. The class will also get started on their personal narratives about a favorite mistake. They will use expression and reflection techniques from Kelly Gallagher’s book, Write Like This.
8th ELA – 8th grade is also cruising through and completing Two Miserable Presidents this week. They’ve done an excellent job checking in with Civil War concepts and questions with their written responses. In writing, they will finish personal narratives. The topics this class chose to write about are grand! I can’t wait to see the final products.
Social Studies Projects – Partnered teams have just gotten started on their topographical maps. This week they’ll continue research on the battles, events, and places for their project. We’ll also continue whole class lessons on Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, reconstruction, and Amendments 13, 14, and 15.
