Hello Families! We had a great week back and just two more weeks until our winter recess. Please see the dates at the end of the post to be up-to-date with happenings in the classroom and here at Oasis.
This week in 5th grade math: We begin the week taking our winter MAPS assessment. This is a normative test that helps to provide benchmark data and determine growth and expected performance on the spring SBAC test. Then we pick back up on Tuesday and Wednesday with fraction word problems and review. On Thursday, December 12, we will have our Unit 4 test on multiplying and dividing fractions.
This week in 6th grade math: We begin the week taking our winter MAPS assessment. This is a normative test that helps to provide benchmark data and determine growth and expected performance on the spring SBAC test. Then we pick back up on Tuesday and Wednesday with rate word problems and review. On Thursday, December 12, we will have our Chapter 6 test on rate.
This week in 6th grade projects: We had successful presentations and the students had a great deal of fun with their weather report projects. We will begin our final unit in science, Unit 4, Human Impact on Earth’s Systems. Our next project will prepare students to answer questions about what can be done to protect our environment as well as learn the format and procedures for bill propositions. This week we will explore fossil fuels, non-renewable and renewable resources, and ore deposits and mining. Graded Unit 3 tests and projects will be returned throughout the week. We had to reschedule our Science MAPS test due to the spelling bee. So our Winter Science MAPS will be this Tuesday, December 10th.
Please continue to check Infinite Campus and your child’s binder for updates on grading and assignments. Students are encouraged to check as well. The first semester report cards will go home January 9th. I highly encourage students to be caught up on missing assignments before we head into winter break. I have been providing missing assignment reports for students and will continue to do so. Students come to study hall to catch up and can catch up at home as well. As always, any questions you have please email me or send a note.

Donations can be dropped off in Mrs. O’Flaherty’s room. Our goal for this year is 150 sets of pajamas! Let’s do it! If you have any questions please email Mrs. O’Flaherty. Thank you so much for all of your support!
Looking forward to a great week!
