Here we are at the week before break, I can’t believe how fast this first half of the year has flown! I wish everyone joyous holidays and well rested family time!
The week ahead in 5th grade math: We will start the week finishing up our Unit 4 tests. We will begin to get our minds warmed up for Unit 5. We will review area and perimeter and apply our understanding to create floor plans for Elf houses. Over the break students can continue to get caught up on IXLs or work on their individual skill plans on Khan Academy Mappers. https://www.khanacademy.org/mappers
The week ahead in 6th grade math: We will begin the week by going over our Chapter 6 test on unit rate. Then, we will jump into Chapter 7 skills on percents and percentages. We will begin the week investigating percents and move on to converting fractions and decimals into percentages, followed by finding percentages. Over the break students can continue to get caught up on IXLs or work on their individual skill plans on Khan Academy Mappers. https://www.khanacademy.org/mappers
The week ahead in 6th grade projects: We will narrow in on our focus on law propositions for how we can change the practices of citizens within Nevada to positively impact our Earth. We will study the ways humans are impacting the Earth as well as the impacts of human population growths and global warming/rising temperatures.
This last week before break brings special events and happenings. This Thursday we have special events occurring. We will be walking to the Fallon theater around 8:30 to watch the movie “Home Alone.” Permission slips went home and were sent out via Infinite Campus. The students must have a signed permission slip and $5 to attend the trip. I have collected many permission slips without the money, so please send that in with your student prior to Thursday morning to make things less stressful. When we return from the movie, students will eat lunch as normal. After lunch we will paint ornaments and students will attend their electives as normal. After electives, around 2:50, we will have our classroom party. The students will enjoy some treats and hot chocolate along with some games and our Secret Santa gift exchange. If your student is participating in Secret Santa, they chose a name and are required to bring a wrapped $5 gift for the student they chose. Please be sure these gifts are prepared to be presented on Thursday. Students can also bring their favorite mugs to enjoy hot chocolate. Thank you to those who have already signed up to contribute to the party. Here is the link for the Sign Up Genius, looking forward to an eventful day before break!
