Week of 10/21-10/24

October 20, 2019 by Victoria Ponessa

Hello Families!

Thank you for all those who were able to attend conferences on Friday! It was great to see all of you and discuss progress and goals for your students. Conferences marked half-way through the first semester, which will come to a close on January, 9th.

5th Grade Math: This week we will continue to build upon our understanding of adding and subtracting fractions with a focus on mixed numbers. We will have a mid-unit quiz this Thursday, October 24th. Students have shown success applying their understanding of factors and multiples when finding common denominators and simplifying.

6th Grade Math: This week we will continue to apply our understanding of decimal operations. We will review dividing decimals by decimals, as well as apply our understanding of powers of 10 and decimals to the metric system.

6th Grade Projects: This week we will begin to conclude Unit 2. Students have been working diligently on their projects and essays. They will continue to have class time this week to finish up their projects and prepare to present this Thursday, October 24th, at 2:45pm. The presentations will be gallery style, so come stop by and learn about various landforms that our students have become experts on.

Study Hall is offered everyday for students as an opportunity to remain on top of their homework and school work. Our 5th/6th grade team of teachers host study hall in their rooms on a rotating schedule. I host study hall on Thursdays, but am always available to students regardless of the day. I just ask that students let me know if they plan to come in, so that I can make arrangements to be available for them. As middle school students, we want students to begin to foster proactive study skills that students can carry with them through their schooling.
