Week of 1/6-1/9

January 6, 2020 by Victoria Ponessa

Hello Families!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful break. I apologize for my unexpected absence Monday and Tuesday of this week. I will return to the classroom on Wednesday.

The week ahead in 5th grade math: We will be jumping back into the beginning of Unit 5: Area. We will review the area of rectangles and composite figures, followed by exploring area of triangles and parallelograms. This is the last week of the first semester. Please check IC with your student to be sure all assignments are completed prior to Thursday, Jan. 9th.

The week ahead in 6th grade math: We will be jumping back into Chapter 7: Percents. We will start the week by finding the quantity when given the percent of the quantity, continue with word problems involving percents and review concepts from Chapter 7. We will have our Chapter 7 Test on Thursday, January 9th. This is the last week of the first semester, so please check Infinite Campus with your student to be sure they are caught up on missing assignments.

The week ahead in 6th grade projects: We will be wrapping up our fourth and final unit with science for the year. We have been studying Human Impact on Earth’s systems. The students will continue to work on and complete their environmental bill proposals by Thursday. On Thursday, January 9th, the students will take a Unit 4 Vocabulary Quiz. We are not doing as formal presentations as in the last three units, but rather a gallery walk in which students present their proposed bill to their peers.
