Week of 1/21-1/23

January 20, 2020 by Victoria Ponessa

Hello Families,

I hope everyone was able to take advantage of the long holiday weekend! We have a three day week ahead of us and lots of learning to look forward to.

The week ahead in 5th Grade math: We will continue our new unit on ratios. We will discover equivalent ratios, compare ratios and simplify ratios. If students are behind on classwork, such as problem solving or IXLs, these can be done at home to help remedy the situation.

The week ahead in 6th Grade math: We will continue our new unit on algebraic expressions. Students will continue to solve expressions by substituting for variables. Students will begin to combine like terms and we will consolidate and review concepts learned up until this point. If students are behind on classwork, such as problem solving or IXLs, these can be done at home to help remedy the situation.

The week ahead in 6th Grade Projects: We will continue investigating theories about early humans and the different types. The students have started researching their assigned early human and are beginning to draft a narrative that reflects the life style of their early human. The students will work on their rough drafts this week, as well as sketch their cave art that will accompany their story. Students should bring in some natural, raw materials to begin to create a paintbrush.

Upcoming Dates/Events:

1/23: 5th and 6th Grade Do Now Quiz.

1/30: End of Unit 1 Projects. Presentation info TBD

2/3-2/12- Candy Gram Sales
