Week Fifteen December 2-5

December 2, 2019 by Shayna Byrd

Good morning and Happy Monday!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful fall break and enjoyed some time with family and friends for Thanksgiving!

Please don’t forget that this is our last week to donate a pair of PJs for our  high school and middle school student council Scholastic Pajama Drive.

Week Six is underway!

This week in Reading we will be moving into a new class book,  Two Miserable Presidents: The Amazing, Terrible, and Totally True Story of the Civil War. In it, Steve Sheinkin explains the causes and curses that divided America into Union and Confederate nations.

Today the 8th grade team will finish our class novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde with an essay about duality. Then they too will move into reading Two Miserable Presidents

In writing, the class has completed their argumentative essays and are taking this week to break down parts of essays. Their main focus will be on identifying thesis statements, hooks, and topic sentences through a variety of individual and group exercises.

Science this week is packed full! Monday the class will finish up presentations of their endangered animal recovery plans and introducing vocabulary for our new unit on genetics. With this unit, we will begin learning about and explain that traits are observable characteristics that are passed down from parent to child, and use a trait inventory to create a bar graph.
