Hello Bighorn Families!
I’m excited to begin another school week full of learning adventures. In projects, we will continue to expand our knowledge of Early Nevada Settlers through independent research, group discussion, as well as guest visitors/presentations. Last week we were visited by a Basque sheepherder to help the students learn of their contributions to Nevada. This week’s SURPRISE visitor is a representative of the Reno Sparks Indian Colony. She will be sharing information about the Shoshone and Paiute Indians. Not only are students learning about different groups of settlers, they are embarking on a new chapter on how to research and grow their note taking skills.
Last week in writing, our grammar lesson focused on the rules of capitalization. After grading the quizzes, we will review the capitalization rules before moving on to the rules of different punctuation. Each week we will introduce, study, practice and take a quiz (each Thursday) on a different grammar lesson. In addition, students will continue journal writing, either through an ongoing Google Doc with me, or handwritten in their comp book/journal. We will also continue working on the next stage of the writing process, the drafting stage.
I would like to remind parents that while Writing and Projects do not have homework logs, the homework logs for reading and math are a requirement set by the school. Please be diligent about filling out and signing your child’s log every night. Failure to do so will require the student to stay in study hall for their lunch break. Our administrators are looking for feedback from parents about our new homework policies and for parents that are interested in being on the Homework committee. If you have any thoughts or ideas you would like to share, or if you are interested in being on the committee, please let me know.
Our PICTURE DAY is this Tuesday! Order packets were sent home last week in your child’s “Take Home” folder. There is also an online ordering option. The website is mylifetouch.com, and our Picture Day ID is : CR808421Q0. All students must wear their uniform for pictures and all students must have their picture taken, even if you are not purchasing pictures.
Uniform socks are traditionally black, white, or navy in color. If your child chooses to wear socks or leggings that are not uniform colors, they must pay $1.00 per quarter ($4/year). You may drop off the money to Ms. Julie at the front desk, or you can send it to class and I will pass it along.
I encourage open lines of communication with both my students and parents. If you or your child have any questions or concerns I want to be there for y’all. Have a great week!
