Dear Bighorn Parents,

It’s hard to believe that we are down to the last 2 weeks/7 days of school and a busy last 2 weeks it will be!! There will be no homework for the remainder of the year.
Over the next 2 weeks there will be many special events. On Tuesday, May 28th, 2nd graders will be participating in the Junior Achievement program. This program teaches students about economics and money management through hands on activities and games. We are very fortunate to have the volunteers from Junior Achievement present at Oasis.

Math
In math we will complete our work in multiplication (which the students are really enjoying and picking up very quickly). The assessment will be on Wednesday.

Language
Students will be finishing up on using guide words. This has proven to be a bit tricky. We have done some “acting out” of this skill with two students holding the guide words (written in red) and students with other words (written in blue) joining them in alphabetical order. Students can see the blue words that go between the guide words (written in red). We will be working a bit more with this skill and assess this week.

Writing
Most students have completed their final narrative–a small moment that happened during a past summer. There have been many interesting topics, everything from fishing to swinging from a haystack. Students will be sharing their small moment narratives to the 1st grade class, who have also been working on small moment stories.

Projects
The 2nd grade students are still working on putting together their tri-fold boards. With students still working on their tri-fold boards, our presentation day will need to be pushed into next week. Miss Garcia and myself are looking at Monday, June 3rd at 3:15 pm or Tuesday, June 4th at 3:15 pm.  We will keep you posted.

We hope that everyone enjoyed their long Memorial Day Weekend. The next 2 weeks are sure to be busy as we finish out the 2018-19 school year and move into summer.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Bloomfield and Miss Garcia
