Another week down, y’all, the time is just flying by! I know the 4th graders did their best on both the Math and ELA SBAC tests over the last 2 weeks and I’m so proud of them. End of the year also means a lot of testing, so the students still have MAPS testing and reassessments in upcoming weeks.
The 4th graders had the pleasure of listening to two more guest speakers this week. First, Monica Snooks and another Wells Fargo employee came to introduce financial literacy to the classes. Students discussed the differences between wants and needs, as well as ways they could earn and save money. Additionally, Dr. Ferguson came to share her knowledge as a veterinarian, show some tools of the trade and even passed 2 preserved horse legs around the classroom! She shared some of her experiences as a vet and answered a lot of questions, including what preparations students can do now to help them be successful in a career in veterinary medicine.
In projects, students are completing the research phase for their industry slideshow assignment. Most students are designing and organizing their slideshow and we expect to have this portion of the project complete this coming week. Since this project will include an oral presentation grade along with the slideshow grade, students will also make note cards and spend time practicing their speaking skills.
In writing, most of the students have completed their informative volcano papers. I am excited to read this masterpiece and compare this assignment to their pre-assessment from the beginning of the year. It always warms my heart to see how much each child has grown in their writing abilities. Our next writing is still an informative paper, but this time the students get to decide what they will write about! So far, everyone is enjoying this assignment and it is exciting to see how much easier the second paper is for many of the students to write. As students finish this last assignment, we will take time and share with the class… always a fun activity.
Your children are SUPER stars! I love them and can’t wait to see each of them on Monday!
