A very special thank you to all of the parents that came to visit with Mrs. Sorensen and me for conferences. It was nice to visit with each of you and discuss your child’s improvement and potential. However, the meeting was bitter-sweet knowing that I only have 8 weeks left with your child.
We still have several standards to cover in these last few weeks, but they will be fun and exciting! Last week students completed the volcano unit and the entire class scored a 3 on their vocab test! This week in projects we will complete our last unit in Earth Science… Erosion and Weathering. The list of vocabulary words will be sent home on Monday, but we will not take our test until NEXT week. Students will learn the difference between erosion and weathering by watching educational videos and through classroom discussion. They will also put their research skills to the test by using an online article to complete their note taker. As a class, we will review the pretest that will help students prepare for the post test next week. On Thursday students will be moved into new groups to prepare for their erosion project next week. Please ask your child what materials they are responsible for to ensure the construction of our mountain project goes smooth.
In writing, we will continue to research and organize our informational essays on volcanoes. Students will continue to perfect this ongoing assignment through the writing process that we have learned all year. We will also learn and understand paraphrasing.
Thank you again for sharing your children with me. Please enjoy the pictures from our Brownie A la Mode party. The class worked together to achieve 20 class points, and majority decided on the brownie party as the prize!
