Dear Parents,

It’s the week before Spring Break, the students (and teachers too) are very excited about having a week off! Miss Garcia and myself hope everyone has a restful and safe vacation.

Mark Your Calendar…
The students in Mrs. Bloomfield’s class have enjoyed participating in Music with Mrs. Barton over the 3rd quarter. Friends and Family are invited to Room 17’s Musical Performance on Thursday, March 12th at 12:15-12:45 pm in the Maker Space. Hope to see you there!!

Also on Thursday, March 12th the 2nd grade students from both Miss Garcia and Mrs. Bloomfield’s classes will present their Landmark Projects. These projects will take place in the classrooms and hallways by the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms from 3:15 to 3:50 pm.

In math, 2nd graders will be focusing on graphing. Our 2nd grade standards call on students to work with picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots. Our work on graphing will begin this week and continue after Spring Break!
Students have typed their narratives will be sharing their personal narratives in Story Circles this week. This is a great opportunity to share their narratives with other 2nd grade students and receive feedback.
In language students will be working on using prefixes in words to help us determining the meaning of word. This is a standard that students have worked on in reading this year. Working with prefixes is also a language standard for second graders. The prefixes we will focus on are re, un, dis, mis, pre, and under.

re = again, back          Replay means to play again.
un = not, opposite      Untie means that something is not tied.
dis = not                       Dishonest means not honest.
mis = wrong                Misprint means something was printed wrong.
pre = before                Preschool means school you go to before kindergarten.
under = below            Underwater means below the water.

Students are putting together their tri-fold boards about the landmark they researched. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be spent putting the finishing touches on their tri-fold boards and practicing their presentation. Groups will practice their presentations in front of small groups of students (1st and 2nd graders) and each group will present to our class as we prepare to present to parents, family, and friends on Thursday, March 12th at 3:15 pm. Hope to see you then!!

As was mentioned earlier in the blog, Miss Garcia and myself wish all our 2nd grade families the very best during our Spring Break. Have fun, get some rest, and be safe…we will see you all on Monday, March 23rd!!
