Week 27

March 8, 2020 by Melinda Santos

Third trimester has been off to a great start! Students really seemed to enjoy celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a reading camp out and we’ve been working hard as authors and illustrators to write our class book about Nevada immigrants. These kiddos have been working hard and definitely seem ready for Spring Break!

This week, we will be working on the following skills:

Social Studies: We will put the finishing touches on our Nevada immigration book by editing our writing and working on our illustrations.  We can’t wait to see how the book turns out once it’s published! Please make sure you send back the book order form by Monday, March 9th even if you do not want to order a class book.

Writing:  We will finish reviewing how to write strong conclusions for informational pieces and we’ll use some of our writing time to work on our Nevada immigration book. In cursive we will be working on the letter Z.

3rd Grade ELA:  We use two mentor texts this week, I Dissent and The House that Jane Built, to discuss cause and effect relationships within a story, review flashbacks, and practice using text evidence to support our inferences. During Daily 5, students will work on Must Do/May Dos and meet with me for reading groups.

    Spelling:

  • Since I was out sick on Thursday, students were not tested on their current spelling lists. They will have this week to continue studying their current words and will be tested this Thursday, March 12th. They will get new spelling words when we come back from Spring Break.

Latin/Greek:

  • Students will be doing a cumulative review of the prefixes and suffixes covered so far and will be assessed on Thursday.

4th Grade ELA:  We use two mentor texts this week, I Dissent and The House that Jane Built, to discuss cause and effect relationships within a story, review flashbacks, and practice using text evidence to support our inferences. We will also practice defining our vocabulary words by using context clues from the stories. During Daily 5, students will work on Must Do/May Dos and meet with me for reading groups.

  • Spring Break is March 16-20.
  • Mrs. Santos’s class will be having their performance for music on Wednesday, March 11th at 12:45pm in the Maker’s Space.
  • Please take the opportunity to wash your child’s backpack, lunchbox, and jacket during Spring Break. The classroom will be disinfected over the break as well.
