Week 26 with Mrs. Farley

March 17, 2019 by Kim Sorensen & Rebecca Farley

Well, we are just rocking and rolling into this last trimester… literally! Last week we had great discussion, interactive web browsing and projects to learn about fossils. The students took a practice test on their Quizlet vocabulary words, and “rocked it!” This week we will move into the study of rocks. This will include the rock cycle, how rocks are made, and the identification/classification of different types of rocks. Your child will take their Quizlet vocabulary test on Wednesday and another comprehensive rock/fossil quiz on Thursday.

Last week the students did a great job practicing sentence fluency, punctuation, and capitalization. These are all fundamental writing strategies that I want to reinforce as much as possible. The students also had fun creating a skit with a partner where they practiced the “show, don’t tell” writing skill. We will continue this technique this week, as well as other skills that will strengthen their writing habits that will prepare them for 5th grade and SBAC testing.

Announcements:

  • Report cards will be coming home this week. Please look for them in your child’s take home folder.
  • Parent/Teacher conferences will be APRIL 12th. Mrs. Sorensen and I will be sending out an invitation for a signup genius closer to that date.
  • March 25- “I’m All Ears – OA Parents Asking Questions” forum.  The forum will be held on the following dates at both 8:00-8:30 a.m. and 5:15-5:45 p.m. This is an effort to provide a forum for parents to ask any question they want regarding any topic.  The “I’m All Ears” forum will have no agenda!  Parents can bring any questions to the table and get accurate answers from school leadership.
