February 24, 2020
Dear Bighorn Parents,
Last Thursday marked the end of the 2nd Trimester!! With the end of the Trimester comes 2nd Trimester Parent/Teacher Conferences, the primary day for conferences is Friday, February 28th, but there are some conferences that will take place the following week. If you have not signed up for a conference, please be sure to sign up this week. If the days or times do not work with your schedule but sure to contact your child’s teacher (Garcia or Bloomfield) to set up a time to conference.
Second grade math students have continued to work on measuring. Last week students estimated and measured in centimeters, inches, feet, and yards. This week we will continue working with the units of inches, feet, and yards. Students will also work on word problems that involve units of measure.
Students have been reviewing 1st grade standards for using commas (dates–February 24, 2020 and commas in a list– I went to the store for milk, bread, and ice cream.). Students also started learning about the 2nd grade standard for commas, which is using commas in the greeting and closing of a letter. The second grade classes are putting this standard into practice by writing letters to a first grader. We will complete our work on commas this week.
Second Graders will finish their personal narratives this week. Students will be doing a self review of their writing and they will also have a peer review their writing. Our week in writing will conclude with students sharing their narratives in story circles.
This week will be a busy in projects. Students have finished researching their landmarks and have begun putting their landmark information on a document. This week students will complete this portion of the project and add pictures of their landmark. Students will be preparing the information to put on a tri-fold. We are hoping students will be ready to present their Landmark Project on Thursday, March 5th. More information about the presentation time will be forthcoming.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon. Enjoy your week!!
