Week 24, Feb. 17-20

February 17, 2020 by Kim Sorensen & Rebecca Farley

We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! We are now in the last week of the second trimester, wow! Where has the time gone?

4th Grade Math: Since this is the last week of the trimester, we will be taking our trimester 2 assessments this Tuesday. We have learned fractions, symmetry, line plots and bar graphs, operations with fractions and measurement conversions. These assessments will give me a good idea of where students stand before report cards. On Wednesday, we will begin our unit on decimals which will go till spring break. I look forward to chatting with each of you at parent teacher conferences.

3rd Grade Math: We will also be taking trimester 2 assessments on Wednesday of this week. On Tuesday and Thursday we will continue to work on finding equivalent fractions with division. Please, please use any opportunity to show your kiddos how fractions work in their everyday life. A deep understanding of this concept will help them incredibly as they move forward in their fraction education. Please be in touch with any questions you may have about math!

In writing, students will complete their second masterpiece by finishing revisions and typing their opinion essay. We will review the rubric in class before papers are turned in to help remind students what should be included in their paper. I will meet with students one last time before they turn in their assignments to ensure they are on the right track and following the writing guidelines.

In projects, we will continue studying our volcano vocabulary words. PLEASE take a few minutes each night to review these words with your child to help them succeed on their assessment. The volcano vocabulary test is this Thursday. We will review our volcano knowledge then students will be placed in groups of 4 to begin building (and explode!) their own volcano.
