Week 21

January 25, 2020 by Melinda Santos

Students did a wonderful job this week researching their extreme weather condition, creating posters, and presenting the information to the class and parents.

This week, we will be practicing the following skills:

Science: This will be our final week of science. We will be investigating what information can be learned from fossils. We will begin social studies on Monday, February 3rd.  Students will be bringing home a family information sheet as well as an outline of important dates for our first social studies unit. Please check your student’s homework folder for these items. Please send completed forms back to school with your child by February 3rd.

Writing:    We will be working on writing strong introductions to introduce an opinion statement and following it up with a summative conclusion. In cursive we will be working on the letter T.

3rd Grade ELA:  We will use our mentor texts, My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother and Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare, to review inferencing and comparing and contrasting similar texts.  Our grammar focus will be learning when to use comparative and superlative adjectives. During Daily 5, students will work on Must Do/May Dos and meet with me for reading groups.

Spelling:

  • Students will bring home new spelling lists in their homework folders this week that they need to practice for 5 minutes each night as part of their 20 minutes of reading homework.  The next spelling test will be on Thursday, February 6th.

Latin/Greek:

  • Every week, students are given 5 words that introduce either a new prefix or suffix.  They will practice these words throughout the week and have a test every Thursday over the prefix or suffix meaning.  Our suffix this week will be “ful”.
