Dear Bighorn Families,

It’s the 21st week in 2nd grade! We are at the end of January, it’s hard to believe how quickly this year is going.
We will continue working on addition and subtraction within 100 and 1,000 with renaming for this week. For the last 2 weeks we have been using the partial sum and partial difference, this week students will be using the branching strategy to add and subtract within 100 and 1,000 with regrouping. Our work on this strategy will We are so proud of our students!!
In language, students will be be finishing up their work on shades of meaning. It’s been interesting to watch the students engage with synonyms and having them use stronger words to make their writing more precise.
Last week all second graders started their work on an opinion piece. Students are writing their opinion about the season of winter. As a class we generated a pro and con list for winter. Students have filled out a note taker to help them write a rough draft on Monday. Our plan is to have students edit and revise on Tuesday and Wednesday and have students write their final copy on Thursday.
Our new project has begun!! On Tuesday of last week students got to experience a few United States landmarks via Google Expeditions. The students really enjoyed using the virtual reality glasses to experience the landmarks of the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Gateway Arch. This week we will focus on vocabulary and as a class researching information about the Statue of Liberty. This is always such learning filled, fun project.

Wishing everyone a fabulous week!!
