# Week 18, Welcome to 2020!

January 5, 2020 by Kim Sorensen & Rebecca Farley

Happy New Year!

It’s been a wonderful break and I’m sure it’s going to be tough to come back to school and a routine. We are excited to get back and see our kiddos and we hope you made some special memories with your loved ones.

Thank you so much for helping our Christmas party be so special. We all had fun gearing up for the holidays with our Christmas attire, fun activities, and our “Secret Santa” exchange. Pictures will be uploaded soon!

4th Grade Math: On Monday we will start the week with returning several assessments, review fractions and set goals for our MAPS test coming up on January 15th. I can’t wait to see the growth that these kiddos have had this year. They have worked so hard and learned so much. On Tuesday we will start our unit on adding and subtracting mixed numbers with related denominators. The tricky part with this unit will be to remember to turn our improper fraction into a mixed number and simplify with addition. In subtraction we will be regrouping our whole number to create an improper fraction that we can subtract with.

3rd Grade Math: On Monday we will start the week with returning several assessments, review multiplication and division and set goals for our MAPS test coming up on January 15th. I can’t wait to see the growth that these kiddos have had this year. They have worked so hard and learned so much. The rest of the week we will continue to multiply and divide with 6,7, 8 and 9 and look for patterns in our multiplication table.

In writing, students continued their work on their first opinion draft. We will pick right up where we left on and continue with lessons on revising reasons and strengthening examples to make our writing better.

In projects, students completed their lily dissection and properly labeled the male and female parts of their flower. They did an ANAZING job presenting their animal slideshows that showcased the internal and external structures of their animal. This next week we will move into our Earth’s Systems unit. Students will learn about how rocks and fossils form over time, enjoy a fun activity, and study vocabulary through Quizlet.
