Week 16-Reindeer/Hedgehogs

December 7, 2019 by Lauren Kelly

Welcome to week 16!

I mistakenly said last week was week 16, but really it was week 15! 🙂 I am trying to get to winter break already. Lol This week’s theme will continue to be Reindeer as we will be finishing our Reindeer Informational Reports. But we will also be looking at Hedgehogs and how they prepare for winter.

For ELA, our texts will be about Reindeer and hedgehogs. We will read fiction and non-fiction books. We will use the fiction book by Jan Brett called, The Snowy Nap. It is a great sequencing book about a hedgehog.

For Math, we will assess students knowledge and ability to identify, produce, and compare 2D and 3D shapes through a paper assessment and a 1:1 students interview with me. Then we will start our new math unit all about measurement of height, length, and weight. Please look for the Home Note about our new math unit!

For homework, students need to complete 20 minutes nightly. 10 minutes of reading or practicing their sight word list they are on. 10 minutes of math on IXL or the 1 page of the alternative math packet.

Holiday Party: For Winter/Christmas season we will have a fun centers party the last day before Winter Break on December 20th at 12:30 p.m. I am looking for 4 parents who would like to volunteer to help run a fun center that day! Just email me and I will put you on the volunteer list for the 20th.

Winter weather: Please make sure your child is dressing in layers each day. They need to have a good winter coat and where it. If the weather warms up they can take it off outside or leave it on their hook inside. Also, appropriate shoes based on the weather is very helpful too. If you are in need of a winter jacket for your child, please let me know as OA has been donated a few.
