Week 15, Dec. 17-20, with Mrs. Farley

December 16, 2018 by Kim Sorensen & Rebecca Farley

I hope this post finds everyone doing well. I know everyone (especially the kiddos) are getting excited for Christmas break! This week’s challenge will be to calm the students down enough to push through these last 4 days of instruction, but we’ll still have lots of fun!

Last week was very productive in both projects and writing. I can already see an improvement in the student’s project vocabulary skills after practicing them at home, so thank you for your help with their study habits. We concluded another essay in writing that  expanded their brainstorming techniques and editing skills.

This week in projects we will conclude our life science unit. In conjunction with your child’s project vocabulary words, we will dissect a flower to get hands on experience of how pollination occurs. We will also continue studying animal adaptations and internal and external structures and functions.  Due to the Christmas party this Thursday afternoon, the students will take their projects vocabulary quiz (parts of a flower) Wednesday afternoon.

In writing, we will begin reading another mentor text to help the students expand their word choice and organizational skills while writing. After reading “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” students will begin the writing process to create their own story about a town that has extraordinary weather conditions.

As we ALL count down the days to Christmas, I hope you are able to take some time to relax and enjoy your children’s joy this season. I am blessed to be a part of your child’s life. Thank you for sharing them with me.

A few reminders:

  • Wednesday 12/19– Projects parts of a flower vocabulary quiz
  • The Oasis Christmas concert featuring the OA choir and your kiddos
will be this Wednesday, December 19th. It will be at 7 pm in the convention center.  Please have your students arrive at least 10 minutes before 7 pm and they should come dressed in their nicest concert attire. We will have refreshments afterwards, so anyone that would like to bring a treat to share would be greatly appreciated.
  • Thank you to those that have signed up to bring goodies for the Christmas party this Thursday, December 20. You may send your item in any time this week. During the party we will be having our gift exchange and watching a movie. We are asking each student to bring a $5 gift to exchange with a classmate.  If your child is a girl, please buy for a girl and if your child is a boy, please buy for a boy!  If you are not able to purchase a gift, please let me know and we will take care of it.  When we have decided on a movie, we will update you on our plans.
