Week 13, Dec.3-6, with Mrs. Farley

December 1, 2018 by Kim Sorensen & Rebecca Farley

OK parents… your kids totally rocked their last week of the trimester! They stayed focused and worked so hard to complete all of their assignments and assessments. Thanks to the parents that came out to see the creative state maps the students did so well on. I had several teachers compliment me on how nice they looked, and I was sure to pass those compliments on to the kiddos. In case you missed them:

We finished the last week of the trimester with a condensed version of Nevada Civics. Although this was a fast paced lesson, I feel the students really enjoyed it and understand the basics of how a democracy works, branches of government, and rules/laws. This week in projects, we will study economics. I am excited to play fun games and have a hands on learning activity with the kids. We will be learning about supply/demand, consumer/producer, economic resources, and more. This will again be a short unit and students will take their assessment on Thursday.

Last week in writing, the students completed their last personal narrative. Again, they were dedicated little writers all week long and everyone completed their papers on time. I’m still grading them, but I am hopeful they have improved since the last paper they wrote.  This week in writing, we will begin studying our next form of writing, opinion writing. I think the kids will really enjoy this unit, of course, who doesn’t love the brag on why something is their “favorite”. We will also study the 6 traits of writing, beginning with Ideas. We have a fun mentor text to use as a read aloud, and will have lots of practice coming up with different ideas that make a story FUN!

****I am looking forward to conferences this Friday. It will be nice to get a chance to sit down and meet with each you! If you haven’t rsvp’d your time slot, there are a few spots left on the signup genius: . Please review your time and make corrections if you need to change it BEFORE Friday.
