I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving break and enjoying time with your family. As much as I am savoring the time at home with my kids and family, my mind is starting to gear up for next week. So, I thought I would drop a little note to y’all and check in 🙂
The students worked diligently to complete their Nevada map projects last week and I am so proud of their commitment and hard work. I would like to invite parents to our classroom (room # 11) Monday, November 26 at 2:00 to view the map presentations. We will NOT be presenting to Mrs. Feest’s class, so students will just present to each other, parents and myself between 2:00-2:30 on Monday. Please feel free to swing by for a few minutes to check out these creative assignments they have worked so hard on. The next standard we will cover in projects will be Civics. In this short lesson, we will learn and discuss the basics of civics, including the current leaders of out state and country, the three branches of government, and more. We will end the week (which is also the end of the trimester) with a short civics test.
In writing, we will end the trimester with a step by step narrative writing assignment based on the students early Nevada settler group. As a class, we will review 3 narrative samples and break down the writing process. Students will organize and write paragraphs, while peer writing and having one on one conferences with me throughout the week. By Thursday, students will have completed an organizer, revised and edited their rough draft, and typed a final draft. We have been focused on this writing style most of the trimester, so I have high hopes that the students will use all resources and knowledge on this last assignment to turn in a fabulous paper.
As mentioned above, the first trimester ends Thursday, November 29. I will review my grade book asap to ensure all assignments have been completed. Any missing assignments will need to be completed during study hall/lunch, before Thursday. Parent teacher conferences will be Friday, December 7th. Mrs. Sorensen and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the academic, emotional, and social affairs of your child. Please watch for an email with a link to the signup genius to reserve your meeting time. These meetings are short (no longer than 15 minutes) and very important to us and your child’s success. Mrs. Sorensen and I will do our best to accommodate your schedule, so please make every effort to attend this conference.
I am looking forward to seeing your child’s bright and smiling face on Monday. Please know that I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of your child’s life and education.
Have a great rest of your week and weekend!
