Welcome to the fun and crazy week 11-Costumes in Kindergarten ! 🙂
Well first things first……..let’s talk about Halloween day here at Oasis Academy. Students can wear their Halloween costumes. But they cannot wear any masks or face paint. Also, please no weapons or accessories should be sent with your child. Just in case, send your child’s uniform with them in their backpack as some students get too hot or get tired of wearing their costumes at school. This way they have an option to change into their uniform after the Oasis Halloween parade that occurs at 8:15 a.m. for the entire school out on the playground area. *There will be a costume contest too. Each class gets to vote for the best costume. Then the administration & office staff will choose a grand champion for K-4, 5-8, and high school.
Our classroom will be having a fun spooky centers party where we will be doing fun stations for the entire afternoon starting at 12:15 p.m. Then will be watching a rated G Halloween themed cartoon from a book we will read this week, called Room on the Broom. It is available for free to watch on Amazon Prime if you all have it. It’s very cute! We will be doing 4 stations that students will rotate to every 15 minutes: Sugar Cookie Decorating, Candy Corn craft, Gilbert the Ghost story and art project, and Sight Word Bingo. *Thank you to the 4 parents that have volunteered to come help out!!! 🙂
This week for Language Arts and Math, we will continue to work with students on opposites and syllables. When students come home talking to them about words that rhyme, opposites, or break down the syllables are great school/connection skills you can practice. This week all of our read-alouds will be Halloween themed: National Geographic Halloween, This is the Pumpkin by Abby Levine, Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson, and Bernstein Bears Trick or Treat by Stan & Jan Bernstein. Students will start beginning to complete a writing that will be part of their Project Based Learning (PBL) called All About Me. Students will compile 4 writings about themselves to create a short biography to use to create a poster and then present to their peers and parents at the end of the school year.
For Math, we will start our new Chapter 4 unit about Shapes and Solids. Students will explore 3D and 2D shapes learning about the sides, corners, size, and orientation.
***For Monday’s lesson, please send in a 3D shaped item from home. This could be a can, box, paper towel roll, ball, etc. It should be able to fit in your child’s backpack and NOT be of great value as we will be building structures with them.
HOMEWORK: 20 minutes nightly for reading and Math. 10 minutes of reading or sight word practice. 10 minutes of math practice on IXL.com Students should do the same modules from last week, which are modules A,B, or C. If you would like an alternative worksheet instead please let me know and I will send home a corresponding packet for the week.
Book Orders: Book orders are due by Thursday, October 31st! I need to finalize them before November 1st. So please get online and place your order or send in the order form with your student with a check made out to Scholastic Book Orders. **Every order earns points for our classroom to get books for our classroom library too! 🙂
Box Tops: Send in box tops whenever you have enough that you’d like to send in. We will collect these continuously throughout the school year. Oasis will collect them periodically and reward classes with the most Box Tops turned in with a popcorn party.
