Happy Halloween to all my students and their families! The excitement has been building for this week and I can’t wait to see all the fun costumes on Thursday 🙂
Pictured above is our latest science experiment in action. We learned about Newton’s 2nd and 3rd laws and tested them out by making balloon rockets and ramps with different levels to learn more about force and acceleration. We discovered that the more mass a sphere has, the more acceleration it had going down the ramp once it got moving.
This upcoming week, we will be working on the following skills:
Science: We are wrapping up our forces and motion unit with a quiz and will move on to our engineering unit by building rafts out of different materials and testing how well they float while holding marbles.
Writing: Students will use all the techniques we have discussed to continue writing their personal narrative rough draft. We will then learn how to self edit and then peer edit. In cursive we will be working on the letter K.
3rd Grade ELA: Students will learn how to recognize the climax within a story and understand the difference between singular and plural nouns. Our mentor text this week is Picnic at Mudsock Meadow. Students will also continue completing Must Dos/May Dos for Daily 5. During Daily 5, students will continue to meet with me in small groups to practice their spelling features and begin their reading strategy groups.
4th Grade ELA: Students will learn how to recognize the climax and falling action within a story and practice changing nouns from singular to plural, including irregulars. Our mentor text this week is Picnic at Mudsock Meadow. Students will also continue completing Must Dos/May Dos for Daily 5. During Daily 5, students will continue to meet with me in small groups to practice their spelling features and begin their novel studies and/or reading strategy groups.
- Help our class earn books from our wish list by purchasing books for your kiddo through Scholastic (https://www.scholastic.com/home/). Be sure to use our class code when ordering VY888. They have LOTS of dollar deals and the latest Dogman and Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
- Reading homework log needs to be signed every night and homework folders brought back to class everyday. Logs will be checked every Monday.
- Please remember to label all of your student’s jackets, hats, and lunchboxes. The Lost and Found table is FULL of unlabeled items as students are frequently forgetting their outerwear outside during recess and PE.
- Our class Halloween Party will be on Thursday, October 31st from 2:30-3:15pm. If you’d like to volunteer and/or bring an item for the party, please sign up through this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044FADA92EA7FC1-halloween Students are allowed to wear their school appropriate costumes that day. There will be a costume parade starting at 8:45am that will end outside for parents to see. Student Council will also be hosting a costume contest. NO READING HOMEWORK IS EXPECTED ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
