Welcome to week 10 of kindergarten!
The time is flying by too fast! We are 2 weeks away from the end of Trimester 1. The theme this week is goats.
For ELA, we will read versions of Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will read the original version, then we will read two different versions. Students will be asked to compare and contrast all 3 versions of the story. Additionally, we will start looking at the story elements of characters and setting to help retell stories we read.
For math we will be finishing up Chapter 3, which numbers 1-10. Students will be assessed on their chapter knowledge learned on Thursday. Please look for their assessment and go over their successes and any areas of need with them.
HOMEWORK: For reading this week 10 minutes of any type of language arts activities: paper book reading, Zoo phonics chant, sight word practice, or any book your child chooses to read. The biggest thing is exposure to words, words, and more words. The more students are seeing their sight words, the easier it will be for them to just know them instantly. We want students to know their sight words within 3 seconds of seeing each one.
*For math this week, 10 minutes each night of any modules from IXL under A, B, & C. I understand that IXL can begin to seem tedious for our kinders. If you are noticing that they are not engaged in the activity. You are welcome to let me know and I can send home a practice sheet for them to complete from our daily unit. Again, the point is to have the student’s reviewing what they are learning. The nightly homework should not be hard or something new for your child. It is simply review.
Book Orders: We will start book orders here in Room 32. This is a cheap and easy way to build your child’s library at home. There will be 2 paper book order in your child’s folder in the front pocket for you all to review. You can turn this in with money or a check. But you can also go online to place your order, which is the quickest and easiest way I recommend! Our classroom code needed to order is: TPPWL. Here is the link to the digital book order pages: Scholastic Book Orders Click on the Kindergarten book order link! Book orders are due by Thursday, October 31st.
Halloween Party: Our class Halloween party will be on Thursday the 31st from 12:30-1:50 p.m. ***Students are allowed to wear their Halloween costumes on this day. But no masks, weapons, or full face make-up is allowed. There will be a school-wide Halloween parade at 8:15 a.m.
Conferences: We will have conferences on Friday, November 15th. Please be on the look out for an email from Signup Genius to schedule your spot. I will also place a link in next week’s blog.
**Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I am always available by email and in person with enough notice.
