This week in English class, all students are working on challenging material. ninth graders are reading Bartleby, the Scrivener, by Herman Melville. This is an American Romantic short story and they are navigating the meaning and the style. We are reading Bartleby as a class and each group will read their own short story from this literary movement to share with the class before Christmas. in tenth grade, students are finishing up their 5-page literary analysis paper, which is due this Thursday. Students have given and received helpful feedback along the way in this writing process. The 10th graders will read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The plot is familiar, so we will focus on the style of the author and analyze to see what makes this story such an enduring tale. We are half way through the quarter, so all students should be checking their grades and getting in any missing work before the winter break. Looking ahead, there is no reading log assignment over the break, but all students should finish their self-selected book for their book report on January 28.
