Parents, please consider donating a gift card in any amount to any venue, or cash, to our gift card tree that 7th grade is putting together for the Future Fest Fundraiser on Nov. 1. Thank you so much for all of your support in this endeavor.

Student Council is collecting new and gently used shoes to send to those in need in Ghana. There is a box in the front office where items can be dropped.

The science test on human body systems is this Tuesday, October 8th. Students will study on Monday in class and work on filling out their study guides.

This week in class:

7th Grade Reading–Students will watch a video and read informational text on current events. They will summarize using main idea and details, and use Habits of Discussion to form opinions and comments on those of their peers. We will continue reading The Girl who Drank the Moon and students will take a short quiz over recent material read in class on Tuesday.

7th Grade Writing–This week we will focus on grammar and sentence building as we take a break from big writing assignments (students are turning in character analysis essays Monday, so Tuesday-Thursday will be skill based).

8th Grade Reading–Students will watch a video and read informational text on current events. They will summarize using main idea and details, and use Habits of Discussion to form opinions and comments on those of their peers. Students will begin a final project on our class novel, Lord of the Flies. They will create a life size image of a character from the book and attach multiple symbols to it that would represent that character.

8th Grade Writing–This week students will focus on grammar and writing responses that are evidence based and analytical. Students will also be required to write individual paragraphs for their group reading project.

Projects–We will have the last 2 presentations on human body systems on Monday, and students will also spend much of the block studying for Tuesday’s test. On Wednesday we will begin our study of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Students will complete a variety of exercises and assignments throughout the next week.

Homework: 7th and 8th graders complete reading logs (20 minutes of reading and 2-3 sentence summary each night). Any studying for science will be counted for the 20 minutes.
