ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

Pajama Drive:

Oasis Academy Student Council will be collecting brand new pajamas for our annual Scholastic Pajama Drive. All pajamas will be donated to local children in need. If you’re able, please donate a new pair of pajamas–we will accept donations through Thursday, December 13th.

 

Rube Goldberg Machines!

Thursday, December 6th students will present their simple machine project. Families are more than welcome to come check them out! . We will be in the “Makers Space” by Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Rosario’s rooms. Presentations will take place from 2:30-3:15, our 7th grade class will need to head out for P.E. at 3:20 that day.

 

7th Grade Reading – Students will examine how particular elements in The Outsiders interact. They will also read and analyze the poem, “Hoods” to apply critical thinking strategies and gain deeper meaning.

 

8th Grade Reading –  This week we will begin, The Strange Case of Jekyll and Hyde. The  gothic novella was written by by Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886.  It is written with in depth description that will take some time and effort for the class to explore and understand.  

7th & 8th Grade Writing – This week both classes have completed a variety of activities around argumentative writing. With this they have learn about the process and requirements of an argumentative essay.

 

Science Projects –  The class continued their designing of a Rube Goldberg machine this week. Their end goal is to perform a simple task that used Newton’s Laws of Motion and the 6 simple machines. This week is full of trial and error. Many teams are close to finishing their final design but are running into a few snags along the way. They are ironing out the kinks so that next week’s presentations will go accordingly. =)
