- Just a reminder there is no school the week of Nov. 25th-29th. Enjoy spending time with your families!
- High school and middle school student councils will be participating in the Scholastic Pajama Drive again this year. We will collect new pajamas for children in need in our area. The tags should be on. We need all sizes (infant to teens). The drive will run from November 12-December 6. Donations can be dropped off in Mrs. O’Flaherty’s room. Our goal for this year is 150 sets of pajamas! Let’s do it! If you have any questions please email Mrs. O’Flaherty. Thank you so much for all of your support!
- LITERACY STRATEGY OF THE WEEK! This week our strategy is one that is often overlooked, especially when it comes to reading and that is making it fun! Ultimately, if your child does not find reading fun, he or she will not be motivated to read. So, this week, we ask that families focus on reading activities that are fun. For example, reading recipes, comic books/graphic novels, websites, or even picture books, are all ways that kids can have fun while reading. So please remember, that the best way to help children become lifelong readers is to make it fun!
5th grade Reading/Writing: : We will be returning back to our setting based narratives and idiom comic strips to improve our narrative techniques. Students will be taking an assessment on a narrative where they read a story and write an effective introduction for it. We will finish up any missing work and IXLs to make sure we are ready to start fresh after Fall/Thanksgiving break.
5th grade Projects: We will finish up with our space systems unit. This week students will research and make posters on an aspect of space systems and present to the class on Wednesday and Thursday. Their final test will be on Thursday.
6th grade Reading/ Writing: Students will begin the week an assessment on narrative writing. They will read a story and need to write a logical beginning for it. We will then be working on denotation and connotation of words. Students will watch a video, play a Kahoot game and make their own sentences that show the connotation of the words. We will finish off the week with an assessment on figurative language and connotation of words.
