The 2nd week of the quarter has come and gone. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Fall Break with their families. We had a class circle discussion today about all the places they are planning on traveling and delicious food they will be gorging themselves on.
7th Grade Reading – We started our next novel this week, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. This is one of my all time favorite books and I have hyped it up plenty for the class. I hope that they enjoy it as much as I think they will. Today we completed chapter one and they began character portraits and descriptions in small groups. They have also continued with their non-fiction text with our weekly current events. The participation in habits of discussion continues to improve. Hopefully they are bringing these conversations home.
8th Grade Reading – The 8th grade team has been working this week on researching and finding specific details about the Victorian Age and its different characteristics. They’ve created and presented Google slides to show their findings about the furniture, clothing, government, authors, entertainment, etc. This activity was in preparation of the novella, The Strange Case of Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, that we will begin when we return from Fall Break.
7th & 8th Grade Writing – This week both classes have completed a variety of activities around argumentative writing. With this they have learn about the process and requirements of an argumentative essay.
Science Projects – The class continued their designing of a Rube Goldberg machine this week. Their end goal is to perform a simple task that used Newton’s Laws of Motion and the 6 simple machines. I love the creativity and problem solving skills this group of kids have!
