November 12-15

Families, our annual student council pajama drive is underway! Please, if you’re able, send in a pair of new pajamas to donate to a child in our community. We need all sizes (infant to large sizes for older teens). We will collect pajamas until December 6th. Thanks so much for all of your support!

There are many students who are not turning in weekly reading logs. This is resulting in students earning zeroes for weekly homework, which consistently negatively impacts grades. Please keep up to date on Infinite Campus and let me know if you have any questions.

This week in class:

7th Grade ELA: Students will work all week on their final project for The Girl Who Drank the Moon. The kids are working on explaining all literary elements and pulling evidence to support their reasoning. In writing, I’m hoping students will have their argumentative outlines and rough drafts underway.

8th Grade ELA: We will read a few chapters in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This is a challenging novella to read, but the kids are doing great and are learning to read and unpack harder text. Our focus with this novella is the concept of duality. In writing, students will turn in their argumentative outlines, along with rough drafts, for a grade. I will conference with students and help them produce their best work.

Projects: Students will work on their endangered species project all week. They are working in teams to develop a conservation plan for a chosen endangered species. We are working on research now, which will be turned into a creative slideshow that showcases their species, and presents a plan of conservation for it.

Homework: Read 20 minutes and turn in weekly reading log
