We had another busy week in 3rd grade! This week the class did an excellent job with their time management and decision making skills in regards to their Must Do/May Do activities. I was very impressed with the effort and focus that was displayed this week.

A huge thank you to everyone that placed a Scholastic book order for this month. I was able to purchase a large amount of books from the 3rd & 4th grade class wish list!

Our 3rd and 4th grade catch me jar winners are shown below. Both students went above and beyond in the classroom. Well done!

For this upcoming week, we will be practicing the following skills:

Projects:  We will continue discussing different types of camouflage and begin presenting our animal creations on Monday.  We are focusing on keeping our animals realistic and combining different features and camouflage that would help our animal survive in our chosen habitat.

Writing: We are going to pause our narrative writing activities to back up and review how to write complete sentences. During our writing and Daily 5 activities, I’ve noticed students have been struggling to identify where one sentence (or complete thought) ends and another beings. This provides us a great learning opportunity to revisit this concept and really  hone our skills. Students will also be learning how to write the letter G in cursive this week.

3rd Grade ELA: Students will continue practicing alphabetizing words up to the third letter, identify when to use different verb tenses, and focus on asking questions before, during, and after reading to better understand the text and become stronger readers. Our focus text this week is Finding Winnie. Students will also continue practicing their time management by completing Must Do/May Dos for Daily 5.

4th Grade ELA: Students will continue practicing alphabetizing words up to the third letter, identify when to use different verb tenses, and focus on asking questions before, during, and after reading to better understand the text and become stronger readers. Our focus text this week is Finding Winnie. Students will also continue practicing their time management by completing Must Do/May Dos for Daily 5.

REMINDERS:

  • Reading homework log needs to be signed every night and homework folders brought back to class everyday.
  • Please have your student bring an Oasis approved jacket/sweater to school each week. It is getting chillier outside and can get cold within the classroom as well. Be sure to label your child’s items!
  • If your child has a game or extracurricular activity, I would love to come and show them my support. Please let me know when and where so I can try to make it.
  • Our classroom code for Scholastic book orders is V8KG9.
  • October 12th is the pumpkin decorating event for both 3rd grade classes. Students were given a letter on Thursday to take home with all of the information. I hope to see you all there!

I understand the transition to 3rd grade can be challenging. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or questions you may have. I am working diligently with each student to make sure they are successful during this transition. Your children are awesome and I have truly enjoyed getting to know them! Have a wonderful week!
