Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We had a great first week in third grade while focusing on procedures, routines, expectations and getting to know each other. We finished off our week with a fun team building exercise. Students worked in pairs to “save” Fred the gummy worm. There was lots of giggling, cheering and shouts of excitement happening from both classes during this activity. Our two teams that had the fastest time in saving Fred are shown below. Your children are awesome and I have enjoyed getting to know them all this week!

3rd grade

4th grade

3rd Projects: We will begin our science unit this week. Students will develop models to describe the diverse life cycles of common creatures.

3rd Writing: Students began their cursive writing last week and will be working on the letter B this week. We will also be starting our narrative writing unit with students learning about the types and organization of narrative writing.

3rd Reading: Students will start the week by book shopping in our class library. Once students have chosen a “good fit” book they will begin working on building their reading stamina. We will also be reading Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun throughout this week. Students will work on understanding and forming connections to the text and discussing synonyms and antonyms.

4th Reading: Students will start the week by book shopping in our class library. Once students have chosen a “good fit” book they will begin working on building their reading stamina. We will also be reading Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun throughout this week. Students will work on understanding and forming connections to the text and discussing synonyms and antonyms. Students will also work on deciphering the difference between deep and shallow connections within a story and connecting those to their daily lives.

Reminders:

  • Please remember to return ALL paperwork from the white binder including the page that is towards the back of the student handbook.
  • Reading logs were sent home last week and will need to be completed nightly. Please make sure your child is completing their daily reading and that you are signing their logs.
  • MAPS testing for reading will begin this week for 3rd and 4th grade. If your child has not already brought their headphones into class, please make sure they do so this week.
  • Johns Reading level assessments will also start being administered this week to determine beginning of the year reading levels for 3rd and 4th grade.

If you have any questions, concerns, comments please do not hesitate to contact me. Have a wonderful week!
