Mrs. Renfroe 11/4/19

November 4, 2019 by Janet Renfroe

Between the power outage and Halloween, we had quite an unusual week! Thank you to all the parents who provided food and supplies for the party and for the volunteers who helped set up, clean up, and run the cookie decorating stations. Thank you for all that you do!

As we’re wrapping up our last week of the first trimester, I will be sending out a link to sign up for parent-teacher conferences which will be held on Friday, November 15th.

Our 3rd grade class catch me jar winner for last week was recognized for going above and beyond in the classroom. Well done!

This upcoming week, we will be focusing on the following skills:

Science: Students did a wonderful job as engineers last week designing a boat that could float and carry at least 2 marbles, all while staying within a budget and using only the materials provided. We will continue our engineering unit this week by following the same guidelines (predetermined budget and basic supplies) to build a bridge that can hold several pennies.

Writing:  Since we lost some time last week from the power outage day and Halloween, students will continue using writing techniques we’ve learned to finish drafting their personal narratives. Then we will use self-editing and peer editing to polish our writing. In cursive we will be working on the letter K.

3rd Grade ELA: Students will learn how to identify facts and supporting details within our nonfiction mentor text (Creature Features) and how to use coordinating conjunctions to join two independent clauses. Students will also continue completing Must Dos/May Dos for Daily 5.  During Daily 5, students will continue to meet with me in small groups to review skills and begin their reading strategy groups.

4th Grade ELA:  Students will learn how to identify facts and supporting details within our nonfiction mentor text (Creature Features) as well as the different elements found in nonfiction vs. fictional texts. Our grammar focus will be practicing how to use coordinating conjunctions to join two independent clauses. Students will also continue completing Must Dos/May Dos for Daily 5.  During Daily 5, students will continue to meet with me in small groups to review skills and begin their reading strategy groups and/or novel studies.

REMINDERS:

  • The Book Fair is open this week and all classes will have the opportunity to go throughout the week. My 3rd grade class will be going on Monday morning at 8:30am. The book fair will also be open on Thursday night from 6:30-8:30pm for Family Night.

Mrs. Renfroe
