We’ve been so busy since we got back from winter break!
7th Reading- Our class ROCKED their Outsiders Paideia Seminar. There were four topics that included giving advice, theme, teen problems today vs in the novel and finally a Movie vs. novel. I am so impressed with how well this group handled their habits of discussion and how deep they dug. They did an excellent job arranging and formulating discussion points along with responding to each other.
7th & 8th Writing- This week, both classes will work on completing an unassisted argumentative essay. 7th grade students will read an excerpt from a play about a boy who is afraid of the sea. Students will take notes as they read., then write an argumentative essay on whether or not he main character overcomes his fear over the course of the play. 8th graders on the other hand will read a passage about cloud seeding. Students will take notes as they read. They will later write an editorial about whether or not cloud seeding should be funded in the community.
8th Reading – This week we will read about and research Harper Lee to learn about her life, and how it might have influenced the events in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. I look forward to this novel each year and am so excited to get started with it this week!
Science/Projects- As we finish up with this quarter’s Science standards, this week we will be focusing on developing and using a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.
