February 3-10: Middle School Student Council will be selling candy grams will be sold to students in grades 3-8 in the cafeteria during 3-8 lunch blocks (11:30-1:00). Cost is .50 apiece. Students and parents will need to make all purchases during this time.

Middle school Valentine’s dance is Thursday, February 13 from 7-10. Mark your calendars!

Retake/redo policy: Students may retake or redo any test or assignment (including big writing assignments) to earn a better grade. They must approach me within 3 days of receiving the grade so we can coordinate a day and time. These have to be done during lunch, as it’s the only time available for students to do makeups and retakes.

This week in class:

7th Grade ELA–Students will continue reading Two Miserable Presidents to learn about and write about the causes, effects, people, and events of the Civil War. They will use text evidence to support their reasoning when answering text based questions. In writing students will continue their narrative outlines. Students are choosing a favorite mistake to retell, using various narrative writing techniques to create a vivid, entertaining picture for their reader.

8th Grade ELA–Students will finish Two Miserable Presidents. They will use it to write about various aspects of the Civil War, and to connect it to their social studies project with Miss Rosario. Next up is To Kill a Mockingbird! In writing, students will finish their personal narratives this week.

Projects: Students will continue to learn about various Civil War concepts, such as the Gettysburg Address. They will also work on their topographical map projects.
