Student led conferences for 7th grade are this Friday, February 28th from 7:30-2:00. Please stop by with your student and let them show you their wonderful progress and share their goals with you! You don’t need an appointment–just show up in that time frame at your convenience. I look forward to seeing you all this Friday!
This week in class:
7th Grade ELA–Students will continue reading The Outsiders. Together we will make connections to characters, discuss how the characters are changing, and how the author uses techniques, such as foreshadowing, to move the story along. In writing, students will work on No Red Ink skills, and they will complete smaller writing assignments centered around our class novel.
8th Grade ELA–We will continue with To Kill a Mockingbird. Students are doing a wonderful job discussing the themes of this book, and citing evidence to support their analysis. We will focus on character development this week, along with the development of several of the themes of the novel. In writing, students will continue working on components of a sentence in No Red Ink, and they will complete short writing assignments tied to our class novel.
Projects–We will end our study of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era this week. Students have a vocabulary test this Thursday, February 27. Next up is World War I!
Homework: Read for 20 minutes and fill out log. This is so important for students to do every night. Building reading stamina is what help kids focus and build on their ability to think critically and deeply about text.
