We had a great week understanding potential and kinetic energy through our Hot Wheels experiments. We spent last week discussing the different variables that can effect the distance that their cars would travel down the ramp. Then, we compared the data of the class results (see pictures below). This week, we will conclude our energy transfer unit by studying the effects of collision through our Hot Wheels car. Students will use evidence that they collected during the experiment to construct a poster that displays the data of both their distance and collision findings. Your child will also give an oral presentation (just to the class) to share all they have learned in relation to the speed of an object to the energy of that object.
It is so exciting to see your child’s improvement of writing techniques! They have done very well on the last two assignments that they wrote using strong word choices and dialogue. This week we will switch back to studying opinion writing. As a class, we will refer to the OREO writing process, play fun games that discuss what are (and are not) examples of opinions, and we will learn about strategies for generating ideas for opinion essays. Through anchor charts and organizers, students will create an original opinion writing piece by the end of NEXT week.
You have probably heard the news that one of our 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Antoniono, was recently diagnosed with cancer. A t-shirt campaign has been set up as a fundraiser to help her and the family with expenses. These shirts ARE uniform approved, and can be purchased at: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/mrs-antoniono-t-shirt-campaign?ref=copy-link_social_desktop-campaign-page-share-top-v3&utm_campaign=desktop-campaign-page-share-top-v3&utm_content=mrs-antoniono-t-shirt-campaign&utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link&side=front&type=1&zoom=false.
You can also use this link to make a donation without purchasing a shirt, and all proceeds will go directly to Mrs. Antoniono. This particular fundraiser is only open for the next 4 days, but I will keep you updated if/when other fundraisers are planned. Thank you for your support.
