Students can also bring in some snacks for the afternoon.
  • LITERACY STRATEGY OF THE WEEK!  How many times has your child asked you, “What is this word?” Our literacy strategy of the week focuses on giving your child strategies to help him or her decode words independently. This week our strategy is use word parts/sounds that are known to help decode a word. When your child comes across a word that is unknown, have him or her try to recognize parts of the word that are known. For example, in the word “decoration”, your child might recognize “de” and “tion”. Then have your child isolate the unknown part “or” and try to decode just that small portion of the word then put all three parts of the word back together in order to read it through. This strategy teaches children to remember and look for word parts within a word rather than trying to sound out a word letter by letter.
  • PAJAMA DRIVE CONTINUES TO DEC. 12th. Please send in donations for pajamas.

5th grade Reading/Writing: Students continue to work on reading and writing about Earth’s spheres and interactions during our ELA block. Students will be writing informative paragraphs to explain their projects and how they demonstrate interaction among spheres.

5th grade Projects: We continue to learn about Earth’s spheres. This week, we will explore how the spheres interact during specific events in a sphere. For example, students will learn and explain how a volcanic eruption impacts the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.
6th grade Reading/ Writing: Students continue reading Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelson. We are excited to announce that the author will be visiting our school on Thursday, December 12th. We are excited for the opportunity to hear from an award-winning author!
