  • Mrs. Brown

    • 6th grade

I moved to Fallon in 1986 from birthplace and home, Salmon, Idaho. I have a husband, Mike, five grown children and ten grandchildren. I have taught in the Churchill County School district for 16 1/2 years. I also worked, taught and tutored at Western Nevada College for 15 years. Last year was my first year at Oasis Academy, teaching several 6th grade subjects along with 8th grade writing.

I enjoy gardening, preserving food, quilting, reading and volunteering for various community service projects.

  • Mrs. Byrd

    • 7th grade

Hello, my name is Shayna Byrd! I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007 and have been teaching ever since. This is my second year at Oasis Academy and I couldn’t be happier. I truly love the students and staff I get to work with each and every day.

I met my husband while playing volleyball at a Junior College in Coos Bay, Oregon and convinced him to come live in my hometown of Fallon. Since then, we have made this place home again with a beautiful property that I am trying really hard not to turn into a complete zoo. (I love animals, what can I say.) We also have two little Byrds running around, Braylon (six) and Maddie (three) that keep us on our toes. In my spare time I enjoy going backpacking, taking pictures, and being with my family. Thanks for taking the time to find out more about me!

  • Mrs. O'Flaherty

    • 7th grade

I was born and raised right here in Fallon. After graduating from UNR I completed my teaching certification at Sierra Nevada College; I also received my Masters of Arts in Teaching from SNC. I have taught grades 3-8 at 8 different schools and have learned so much at each level and at each school. Most recently, I taught 4 years in North Carolina before moving home. Teaching is a passion of mine and I truly feel at home at Oasis Academy. Moreover, teaching 7th and 8th graders is something I look forward to every day.

My favorite thing in life is my family. I have been married to Patrick for 23 years and have 3 beautiful daughters, Maggie (19), Ellie (16) and Sadie (13). There is nothing I enjoy more than being with them. Being back in Fallon has enabled me to also have the opportunity to spend more time with my parents, brothers, and sister in law, and to watch my beloved niece and nephew (aka Hazel and Fenn) grow up.

  • Mrs. Weed

    • 8th grade

I was born and raised in Carson City, Nevada. Throughout middle school and high school, I had incredible math teachers who helped make math exciting to me. Those teachers showed me the possibilities math provided. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Pure Mathematics. While there, I did research in Combinatorics and Graph Theory. After experimenting in the financial world and in the programming world, I married a Fallon native and recently made Fallon my new home. The idea of helping other students find excitement in math drew me to world of education, and I was incredibly fortunate to join the Oasis family this year. I am currently enrolled in a masters program to earn a MS degree in Mathematical Education. I love teaching, and I love math!

  • Ms. Williams

    • 8th grade projects

I was born and raised in Fallon but went to school in Southern California at Vanguard University where I received a BA in English, my California single subject teaching credential in English, and my MA in Education, specifically Curriculum and Assessment. I then taught 8th grade English Language Arts in Santa Ana for one year and decided that it was time to return home. I love literature, and one of my favorite books is Jane Eyre. Some fun facts about me are 1) I was a member of the Fallon Swing Club Competition team for 3 years in high school. 2) I had a Disneyland pass for years and would go at least once a month. 3) I worked at Lake Lahontan on the Fallon side every summer through college, so you may have seen me at the fee booth. I am so excited for the opportunity to teach 8th grade Projects this year and work with the amazing students and staff here at Oasis!

  • Mr. Lewis

    • 8th grade

Jake Lewis grew up in Fallon, Nevada and graduated from Churchill County High School in 2000. While in high school, he enjoyed playing sports especially baseball, where he pitched all through his Senior year. After numerous major changes, and college changes, Mr. Lewis graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics in Dec. 2008, from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. After graduation, Mr. Lewis and his family moved back home where he began teaching 4th grade at EC Best Elementary school. After a year of 4th grade, Mr. Lewis began teaching Middle School and has never turned back.

When he isn't teaching or talking about math, Mr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his wife of 15 years and his two children.
